Should we spend valuable time attending business expos, conferences, trade fairs? They can mean a day out of your busy schedule when there's always pressure to prioritise other work. And yes, they can be a waste of time. But they can also be an opportunity to get exposure for your business, build new partnerships, generate leads, learn about tech innovations new to the market.
DataCryption attended Bournemouth's largest Business Expo on 20 March, held at the Vitality Stadium (home ground of AFC Bournemouth, a reason in itself!). It wasn't a wasted day. We made some good new connections, shared knowledge with exhibitors and strengthened our brand presence. In an ever competitive global market, staying ahead of the curve is key.
Women in Tech
Building a more inclusive and diverse tech industry
DataCryption was pleased to join Web Summit's Women in Tech programme which is committed to empowering women in tech.
Over the years women have played a crucial role in shaping technology advancements, from Ada Lovelace, known as the world's first computer programmer, to Grace Hopper who invented the first compiler and contributed to the development of COBOL.
However women are significantly underrepresented in the current tech scene, especially in leadership roles.
Encouraging girls to pursue STEM from an early age can help bridge the gap, along with creating an inclusive work environment, providing networking opportunities and highlighting achievements.
Initiatives worth checking out include #Girls Who Code and #Women Who Code who aim to balance the gender gap by teaching girls coding skills and providing resources and career development for women in tech; #AnitaB.org organises events such as the Grace Hopper Celebration to connect and inspire women in computing; #WomeninTechUK, part of the international movement headquartered in Paris, supports both seasoned professionals and students in their tech journeys.

Web Summit is one of the largest technology platforms for networking, learning and showcasing the latest advancements in technology from around the world.
With events in Lisbon, Qatar, Hong Kong, Toronto, Bangalore, Dublin and Rio de Janeiro, it brings together industry leaders, startups and investors to explore emerging tech trends and innovations.
